The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires local school districts to engage in needs assessments to assist in identifying targets for health education curriculum and instruction. In collaboration with Emerson Hospital, the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) was conducted among students in grades 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 in Westford and six other school districts in 2010. The surveys were based on those developed specifically for middle school and high school students at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Survey topics included the following:
- Personal and Vehicle-Related Safety
- Violence-Related Behavior
- Suicide
- Tobacco and Alcohol Use
- Illegal Drug Use
|
- Gambling
- HIV/AIDS Education
- Sexual Behavior
- Dieting Behavior
- Physical Activity
